I'm Alison Clare Baldree.
I’m a small-town Illinois turned small-town Michigan gal, nonprofit fundraiser, writer, educator, and outdoor adventurer with big dreams. I find joy in dancing in the moonlight, practicing yoga while the sun rises, the cool mist as it rises from the water, listening to a good story by a bon fire, and have been trying to do my part to make the world a better, brighter place since 1988.
Philanthropy Babe is new, and
this is just the beginning...
Just a few years ago you could have found me living in the city, overwhelmed in the concrete jungle, striving to become what I thought everyone else wanted me to be instead of being myself.
It wasn't until I finally had the courage to stop trying to be perfect did I embark on the journey of learning to fall in love with the most important person in my life: myself.
I packed up my bags, couch surfed the country, and moved to a little town on a lake in the middle of Michigan. Little did I know, each brave step I took would lead me closer to love, joy, creativity, and what feels like my soul's freedom.
Today you can find me snuggled up with my rugged Michigan fisherman, journaling while sipping a latte, or soaking up the sun on Saginaw Bay (this summer, we're giving the camper life a try!)
IN RETROSPECT, I PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT THE GIRL WHO WOULD BEG HER PARENTS TO LET HER GO LIVE IN A TREEHOUSE WITHOUT ELECTRICITY OR PLUMBING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SHAWNEE NATIONAL FOREST WOULD BUILD A LIFE WHERE SHE COULD SPEND THE MAJORITY OF HER TIME PLAYING OUTSIDE SOMEDAY...
I’m probably on an outdoor adventure or planning for the next one and dreaming of ways I can help other inspire and empower other women to be bold, make brave choices, learn to love themselves again, and grow profitable, mission-driven, authentic businesses and organizations that allow them to make a bigger impact.
Curious about what gets me so super excited? Making people feel, own, and celebrate how beautiful and worthy they are… because sometimes this journey of life can feel super hard and hard. If I can be a little mirror to remind people how amazing they are and give them a nudge when they share their dreams that says, “you really can do this”… then I’ll consider my mission complete.
other hats I wear, titles I go by, names I get to answer to
This is a title I am still getting used to. Philanthropy Babe is a creative project for me, one that I keep dreaming about and creating as I feel inspired. The fact that I can use my skill set and knowledge to help others make a positive impact on the world feels like a wild and super cool gift.
I have the privilege to work for a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault service agency where I get to communicate about, market, and raise funds to empower survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence in my local community. This role is the one I imagined when I decided to study Nonprofit Development and Leadership. Smart move, 18-year-old self!
David, my fiancé, often refers to me as his "Special Lady Friend." He is my number one adventure buddy and such a gift to have in my life. I am beyond grateful for him.
This is a title that feels vulnerable, yet I am learning to bravely embrace it. We are all born creative, but life can bog us down and we can forget what a gift we are to the world and to ourselves. I have learned to love writing again and appreciate the opportunity to share my insights and words with you.
My family and friends from my school-aged days refer to me as, "Aly."
